This “My Current Masterpiece” directed drawing project is the perfect project for the beginning of the year. Send it home for a special place to display all the precious work your students will complete throughout the year or keep at school as a year-round bulletin board to display student work. If you plan on using directed drawing resources as teaching tools (we HIGHLY suggest doing this), then this is a great starting off point. Students will create a self-portrait and teachers can show students how to do a directed-drawing lesson along the way.
This project screams “FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL”. Students get to create something tangible and have some fun doing it. Having a dedicated space in your classroom to celebrate student work is a great way to build connections and rapport with your students. This display can be a jumping board for different types of discussions and goal-setting conversations.

If you decide to do this the first week of school and don’t want your frames to be empty, then grab this FREEBIE! You can keep them on hand throughout the year if you go through a time when you don’t have any art or projects students are working on or if you just don’t have time to hang up student work. This makes a great holding spot.
