It’s officially FALL! Whether you are still in warm temps or you are already wearing those fall sweaters, the next season is finally here. We have some amazing activities to share this season and we are kicking it off with some directed drawings. Hopefully you have tried a directed drawing activity with your class before, but if not, keep reading. We promise you will be hooked after the end of the lesson! Directed drawings are great for soft starts, whole-group instruction, centers or completing individually. Students LOVE the Fall Animal Directed Drawings that we are going to share today.
Directed drawings are not only for an Art classroom. They are an easy and engaging way to teach students how to draw (which obviously helps with their fine motor skills). It also helps them follow step-by-step instructions and allows some creativity to emerge from each student. You can integrate these directed drawing activities into your ELA or social studies classes because they come with a writing component. Some teachers do these monthly and keep them in a portfolio so students can see how far they have come with their drawing technique and their writing skills. What an amazing way to show progress at the end of the year!

Whichever product you choose to create with your students is bound to be a success! Try doing one or two as a whole class if you are just starting out, but if you have done these for awhile you know they are great to have on hand for early-finishers. If you have a fall open house or conferences coming up, parents will love to see their little artists in the making so be sure to hang these up in the hallway or around your classroom.
