Do you want to bring some Art into your classroom, but don’t know where to start? This blog is for you! We are focusing on pairing an Art project (mainly directed drawings) and writing so you and your students can hit some ELA standards.
There are so many benefits of using Art in the gen-ed classroom. Some of your students LOVE art and this means instant engagment for them! While others may not be as into it as some, Art has proven to be a stress and anxiety reliever. It gives the brain a break from traditional “school”. It is also said to cultivate critical thinking and support long-term retention of material. Your students may make more of a connection to their writing piece after they have created an Art project relating to the writing.

You may notice that these are all directed drawings. If you haven’t tried them yet, this is your sign to do it! Not only do directed drawings give students independence, they also give teachers a much needed break (most of the time). These are assignments you can easily assign as a whole class project, use in small groups or even use as an early-finisher activity. Each of these Art + Writing resources would be gorgeous hall displays or perfect to use in a portfolio for students.
